Chimpanzee life span

Chimpanzees are among the primates that have a higher life span as compared to other primate species like the different monkey species, gorillas and orang-utans. A one chimpanzee that was a captive is believed to have survived between 75-82 years which is quite impressive but usually chimpanzees in the wild can live to up to 33years and the captives males can live to up to 31.7 years and females 38.7 years

Sexual swelling during fertility

At the age of 13 years, a female chimpanzee can give birth at any given time of the year but their age is not the most impressive part about conception and fertility. Chimpanzees just like humans come into oestrous once a month which lasts between 10-14 days and this can be seen by a pink swelling on their behind. These will confirm that the female is fertile and ready to attract any male for mating and if it is a success, once a chimpanzee gives birth to its infant, it is the duty of the female to take care of it, you will also see the infant clinging to its mother’s fur for one month and after the month elapses the mother will start carrying it on its back for two years.

Another interesting feature about the chimpanzees is the fact that they have exercised cannibalistic features where they attack other primates and eat them for instance gorilla infants have been abducted and eaten by chimpanzees in scenarios where a wandering adult female was cornered along by a large troop of chimpanzees, chimpanzees have also been recorded eating monkeys which is most common in seasons where food is scarce or during fight outbreaks.
