What Do Gorillas Eat? There are four different types of gorillas that are categories into groups the western and the eastern gorilla. These are characterized with different features, size, strength, physical appearance, diet, habitat among other characteristics. The eastern gorilla has two sub species that is; mountain gorilla, eastern low land gorillas, the western gorilla has two subspecies a swell including western low land gorilla cross river gorilla that you will enjoy understanding as you observe their interesting behavior in the wild.

The gorilla diet comprises of mainly vegetation where they can be seen eating a number of fruits which is highly preferred and in seasons where it is readily available, you can see the gorillas opting for fruit rather than other sources of food. Gorillas can also be seen eating a number of edible leaves, tree barks, stems, fruits, bamboo shoots for the mountain gorillas because they are found in the high elevation of mountains as compared to the lowland gorillas. It is believed that gorillas can eat up to eighteen kilo grams of food daily and in case there is food scarcity, they can travel up to 500 meters just to get food, western lowland gorillas can also be seen a number of invertebrates like centipedes, termites, millipedes, larvae as another source of food and even though gorillas eat a lot of food it is rare to see them drinking water because the food that they consume contains water and with this diet it has helped them to gain muscle and height whereby an adult male gorilla can weigh up to 440
