Lake Mburo National Park in western Uganda has over 350 bird species in its different habitats, including savanna, woodland, marsh, and forest, making it a great birding destination all year round. Birding hotspots include the marshy lowlands of Warukiri and Miriti, Rubanga Forest, and the roadsides surrounding Rwonyo campsite. Birdwatchers will enjoy seeing the Red-faced Barbet, African Finfoot, Shoebill, and Ross’s Turaco.

Detailed Itinerary for 3 Days Birding Safari in Lake Mburo National Park
Day 1: Pick up from Kampala/Entebbe and transfer to Lake Mburo National Park
Depending on the time of arrival on the first day of the three-day birding safari in Lake Mburo National Park, our driving guide will pick you up from Entebbe International Airport or your hotel in Kampala, brief you on the safari, and then begin the journey to Lake Mburo National Park in western Uganda. On the way, you’ll stop at the equator for lunch. After lunch, you’ll take some photographs, buy souvenirs, and then continue on to the park, making many stops to see different bird species.
Upon arrival, you will check into the lodge, clean up, and prepare for an evening wildlife drive, which will include views of many bird species, animals, and the sunset, among other things. After the wildlife drive, return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 2: Birding in Lake Mburo National Park
After breakfast, you will meet your birding guide and be transferred to the park for a nature walk accompanied by an armed park guide. During birding, you will follow various trails in the park such as the swamp valleys of Miriti, Warukiri, among others, where you will be able to view different bird species like red shouldered cuckoo shrike, white winged tit, Nubian woodpecker, emerald spotted wood dove, red faced barbet, African fin foot, rufous bellied heron, white winged warbler, speckled Mousebird, yellow fronted tinker bird, ruppells long tailed starling, red chested cuckoo, and Madagascar bee-eater among others.
After the nature walk, you will embark on a brief game drive to see numerous animals grazing along the roadsides, including zebras, giraffes, Uganda kobs, buffaloes, waterbucks, impalas, warthogs, and several bird species, like as the grey crowned crane, among others. After the wildlife drive, you’ll head to the lodge for lunch.
After lunch, you’ll embark on an incredible boat tour on Lake Mburo. The boat ride on the lake is scheduled and takes about 2 hours. During the cruise, you will see a variety of aquatic bird species, including the elusive shoebill stork, rufous bellied heron, African fish eagle, cormorants, pelicans, pied and malachite kingfishers, white-backed night heron, giant kingfisher, and water thick-kneed, among others.
You will also be able to see big concentrations of hippos and Nile crocodiles in the water, animals such as buffaloes, warthogs, giraffes, and antelopes drinking water on the coasts, gorgeous vistas, fishermen fishing, and breathtaking pictures, among other things. After the boat ride, you will meet your driver guide and travel around the park to the lodge, where you will have dinner and spend the night.

Day 3: Morning game drive and Transfer Back to Kampala/Entebbe
On the last day of your three-day birding safari in Lake Mburo National Park, you will check out of the lodge and be picked up by your driving guide for a morning game drive to see some of the bird species and animals you may have missed. During the morning game drive, you will be able to see predators such as hyenas and leopards returning to their hiding places, as well as animals along the roadsides such as zebras, impalas, warthogs, giraffes, oribi, topis, and buffaloes, among others.
After the wildlife drive, you will leave the park and go to Kampala, stopping for lunch near the Equator along the way. After lunch, you will travel to Kampala and arrive in the early evening, where your driver guide will drop you off at any location of your choice or at Entebbe International Airport for your departure flight.
