Detailed Itinerary for 4 Days Bwindi Gorillas and Rwanda Golden Monkey Trekking Tour
Day 1: Pickup from Kigali & Transfer to Bwindi (Approximately 4-5 hours’ drive)
Following your arrival, your guide will pick you up from the airport or any other agreed place of pickup in Kigali and, depending on time, go for a short tour of Kigali city that includes a visit to Kimironko market and the genocide memorial. Have lunch en route as you transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park, crossing into Uganda through Cyanika border. Proceed to Bwindi, arriving in the evening.
Day 2: Gorilla trek in Bwindi Forest Park
Early in the morning, after your tasty breakfast, you will meet your driver who will transfer you to the park headquarters for a briefing from the UWA officials about the dos and don’ts of gorilla trekking. After this, you will set off for the gorilla trek. This is a once-in-a-lifetime experience and an unforgettable adventure. The ranger guides will lead you into the thick forest and start your search for the endangered Mountain Gorillas. You will move up and down the rugged terrain until you finally meet these harmonious creatures that will entertain you with performances for about 1 hour.
The activity can take 2 to 8 hours, depending on the movement of the Gorillas. This is an awesome and exciting moment. En route, there are other types of primates such as monkeys, birds, and more. After the trek, you will receive your Gorilla trekking certificate and meet up with your driver/guide and return to the lodge, where you will spend the evening at leisure.
Day 3: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park and Ibyi’wacu Village tour (Approximately 3-4 hours’ drive)
Have breakfast from your lodge in the morning. You will drive to Volcanoes National Park in Musanze and visit Ibyi’wacu village for a cultural tour. You will get to watch amazing folk dance and singing performances from the local intore dance troupe, visit the king’s palace and even dress like one of the locals. You will then proceed to your lodge for lunch and spend the rest of the evening relaxing at leisure. Dinner and accommodation at your accommodation.
Day 4: Golden Monkeys and Transfer Back to Kigali
As early at 6 am, you will be expected to be up for breakfast and ready to set off for the trek. Our guide will meet you after having your breakfast and your lunches packed, and he will take you to Kinigi Headquarters, where you are expected to be given a brief before starting the golden monkey trek. This brief is done at 7 am. You are given guidelines during this brief before you are allowed to start the trek. This golden monkey trek can take anywhere from 2 hours to half a day, as it’s unpredictable. When you finally find these primates, you will have to maintain a 6-meter distance and you are allowed one hour to admire and take photos of the golden monkeys.
After the trek, you will have lunch and then drive back to Kigali, where your driver guide will drop you off at a hotel of your choice or Kigali International Airport, where you will board your evening flight back home.
