4 Days Nyungwe and Lake Kivu Safari
This is a 4 Days Nyungwe and Lake Kivu Safari that is operated by Explore Rwanda Tours. During our 4 Days Nyungwe and Lake Kivu Safari, you will track chimpanzees in Nyungwe or Cyamudongo forests and also embark on a 2-hour excursion to and from the famous canopy walk bridge. You will then proceed to Gisenyi where you will be visiting Lake Kivu and enjoy a boat cruise on the lake. Wind-up your safari with a coffee tour where you will experience Rwanda’s unique coffee making process. Pickup and drop-off will be in Kigali.

Detailed itinerary for 4 Days Nyungwe and Lake Kivu Safari
Day 1: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park.
In the morning, you will be picked by the driver from your hotel in Kigali and drive southwards to Nyungwe forest National Park. You will have a stopover in Butare, where you will visit the national museum of Rwanda, the king’s palace in Nyanza with lunch en route. Dinner and overnight at your preferred lodge/hotel.
Day 2: Chimpanzee Trek and Canopy Walk
Enjoy breakfast and go for briefing before entering the forest, searching for the active and playful fellows in Nyungwe forest. The Chimpanzees are easy to spot, as they jump from one tree to another, chattering and laughing. Chimp tracking usually takes about 3 hours. You will then have your packed lunch and later return back to base where you will meet up with your driver guide.
After having your packed lunch, you will embark on a guided nature walk along the famous canopy walkway bridge- a swing bridge 50 meters in length that is suspended from large trees. You will be able to see the amazing rainforest with a bird’s eye view, spotting wildlife moving about below you there after connect to your accommodation to spend the evening at leisure. This hike takes only 2 hours.
Later drive back to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay same as above.
Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Day 3: Transfer to Lake Kivu- Gisenyi and Afternoon Boat Cruise
Have your breakfast early in the morning and embark on about a 4 hours’ drive to Lake Kivu in Gisenyi arriving in time for lunch at your hotel. Later in the afternoon you will head out for a boat cruise on Lake Kivu where you will get a chance to explore some of the islands on the lake as well as birdlife.
Drive back to your hotel for dinner and overnight stay at your designated hotel.
Day 4: Morning Coffee Tour and Transfer Back to Kigali.
Later meet up with your guide and head out for a coffee tour at Kinunu washing station in Gisenyi. Take a tour of the facilities and learn more about how coffee is made in Rwanda right from harvesting, processing and packaging. Wind up your coffee tour while sipping on a hot cup of coffee and you can also support the locals by purchasing some of the home-made coffee. You will have lunch and drive back to Kigali. Upon your arrival in Kigali city, you can choose to have your driver drop you off at any hotel of your choice of at Kigali international airport where you will board your flight back home.
