Detailed Itinerary for 5 days Rwanda Gorillas and Primates Safari
Day 1: Pick up from Kigali and transfer to Volcanoes National Park (Approximately 3 hours’ drive)
You will be met by our guide who will pick you up from your hotel in Kigali and head out for a city tour where you will visit the Genocide memorial center, Camp Kigali and Caplaki craft village. Have lunch in Kigali and you will transfer to Ruhengeri town where upon your arrival, you will visit Iby’iwacu village for a cultural experience and tour the former king’s palace as well as learn more about the Rwandan culture. Arrive at your lodge in time to check-in and have dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2: Gorilla Trekking and Visit Dian Fossey Museum
Early in the morning after breakfast and a briefing from the RDB officials, set off for the gorilla trekking. This experience of gorilla trekking is a once in a life time adventure. The rangers will lead you deep into the forest in search of the Gorillas.
You will move up and down the rugged terrain until you finally meet these harmonious creatures whose company you will cherish for 1 hour. The activity in Rwanda can take 3-5 hours depending on the movement of the gorillas. In the afternoon you will visit the Dian Fossey Museum at Karisoke Centre where you will get to learn more about the late Dian Fossey and her extraordinary work and contribution towards the conservation of mountain gorillas in Volcanoes national park. Return for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 3: Golden Monkey Trek and Transfer to Nyungwe forest National Park. (Approximately 5-6 hours’ drive)
Wake up to a very long but eventful day. Have breakfast and head to the park for briefing before you embark on your search for a golden monkey family. Golden monkey trekking takes between an hour to 4 depending on their location. After your trek, have lunch and connect southwards to Nyungwe forest national park. You will arrive late evening to your lodge to rest and be fresh for the chimpanzee and canopy walk for the next day. Dinner and overnight at hotel/lodge.
Day 4: Chimpanzee and Canopy Walk.
As early as 5 am, you and your guide will set out to the Nyungwe park headquarters for the morning briefing before the trek. Head out in the cold forest with the primate echoes being heard from a distance for about 2 to 5 hours. Chimpanzees are active so you will keep seeing them swing from one tree branch to another unlike the gorillas that stay in one place and you are able to study them. You will also spend about 1 hour then set out of the forest for a late breakfast.
In the afternoon after lunch, you will go to take on the afternoon canopy walk on the 2 meters high suspended bridge. You will connect back to your accommodation for dinner and overnight as the night before. Dinner and overnight at your hotel/lodge.
Day 5: Drive back to Kigali.
This will be a more leisurely drive back to Kigali with the visits enroute that you may have missed that is the King’s palace, Butare museum and connect to Kigali for drop off. This day you may opt to include an optional city tour in Kigali if you may have some time to spare. Drop off will be at Kigali international Airport or as you will advise
