Detailed itinerary for 3 Days Uganda Gorilla and Golden Monkey trekking safari from Kigali
Day 1: Pick up and transfer to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park
Depending on your location in Kigali on the first day of the 3 Days Uganda gorilla and golden monkey trekking safari from Kigali, you will be welcomed by our driver guide who will brief you about the safari and then start the journey to Mgahinga gorilla national park which takes about 3 to 4 hours’ drive passing through Cyanika border in Kisoro. On the way you will enjoy great views of rolling hills in Rwanda, terraced farmlands, beautiful scenery among others. Upon arrival in the park you will check into the lodge for dinner and overnight at your designated lodge.
Day 2: Gorilla trekking in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park
After an early breakfast on the second day of the 3 days Uganda gorilla and golden monkey trekking safari from Kigali, you will carry packed lunch from the lodge and meet up with your driver guide to transfer to the park headquarters for a briefing. After the briefing you will start trekking in the jungle in search of the mountain gorillas which takes about 30 minutes to 6 hours depending on where the gorillas are located because they like to move from one place to another in search of food. During trekking you will be able to view other primate species such as l’Hoest monkeys, chimpanzees, black and white colobus monkeys, different plant species, birds among others.
Once the mountain gorillas are found you will be allowed to spend one hour with them in their natural habitat which gives you an opportunity to observe their habits, behaviors, watch gorillas feed, breastfeed, groom young ones, take photos and record the breathtaking moments to show people back home after the safari. After the one-hour encounter with the gentle giants you will trek back to the park headquarters where you will be rewarded a certificate for participating in gorilla trekking and then meet up with your driver guide to transfer back to the lodge for an evening relaxation, dinner and overnight as above.
Day 3: Golden monkey trekking and departure to Kigali
After an early breakfast on the last day of the 3 days Uganda gorilla and golden monkey trekking safari in Kigali, you will meet up with your driver guide to go for a briefing about the rules, guidelines and expectations of golden monkey trekking. After the briefing you will start trekking in the jungle in search of the golden monkeys. During trekking you will be able to spot different bird species, plants, other primates among others and once they are found you will be allowed to spend one hour with them in their natural environment which helps you to watch them jump up in trees, play, feed, learn more about their habits and behaviors, take photos and record the incredible moments.
After the one hour with the golden monkeys, you will drive to the lodge for lunch where after you will check out of the lodge and meet up with your driver guide to start the journey back to Kigali. Upon arrival our driver guide will drop you off at Kigali international airport for your departure flight or drop off at any place of advise.
